Hello all, this is Andrew Pochepan giving you a quick throw down on yesterday's adventure in Nepal! The day started out with a visit to a local Buddhist temple just down the street from our monastery. It is a very religious site for many who follow the Buddhist faith. After, we shopped around and purchased many wonderful gifts in the shops surrounding the temple. Next, we made our way to a 2000 year old temple that required us to climb 400 steps to reach the site (workout for the day). The temple was once an island surrounded by a huge lake that made up most of Kathmandu. After, we made our way to lunch, guess where we went? KFC! Not only is it a strong restaurant chain in the U.S. it is loved India and Nepal; I got the three piece meal (waddup KFC?). We made our way to another bazaar, one of the more famous and large bazaars in Nepal. There we did some shopping and made our way back to the monastery. Later that night (this is where it gets good) we went to a local monastery where monks of all ages from 65 to 8 (the younger ones Ramsey decided to name monklets) preformed a Buddhist chant for us. Afterward we started up a game of soccer with them in a small dirt field in the back. Just goes to show that no matter where you are from, age, race, or religion, we all share common interests and can be united through such a simple thing like a small soccer game in Kathmandu where smiles and laughter are shared. So far, it was the best day of the trip! Hope all is well in the states!
